Triumph Tiger Sport on sale

Ride-by-wire throttle and an adjustable screen among the updates on the British firm's long-legged sports touring machine

Triumph's heavily updated Tiger 1050 Sport is now on sale in Australia for $17,150 plus on-road costs.

A plethora of updates to the sports tourer has brought it into the modern era as a ride-by-wire throttle, selectable engine maps, switchable traction control and cruise control join anti-lock braking as standard fitment.

The combustion chamber, exhaust system and catalytic converter have all been modified to improve emissions, also resulting in better fuel economy (eight percent, according to Triumph), and the new slip-and-assist clutch is claimed to be 48 percent lighter — and from what we've felt in recent new Triumph models with the same feature that's no idle boast.

Triumph claims 126hp (93kW) at 9475rpm and 106Nm from the Euro4-spec triple, with capacity remaining at 1050cc. The whole plot is contained in an aluminium twin-spare frame with 17-inch cast-aluminium wheels and Showa fully adjustable suspension. Brakes are by Nissin.

In terms of surface changes, more angular bodywork immediately sets it apart from its predecessor. Changes to the belly-pan and headlight as well as a higher, now-adjustable screen are the most obvious aesthetic refinements, with new mirrors, footrests and handguards among the others.

The new model will be available in either black or grey livery.
