Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro 2024 Review

The Triumph Tiger 900 range has been overhauled for 2024, and the GT Pro is perhaps the sleekest and comfiest of the bunch

With the arrival of the updated Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro, the benchmark for middleweight, road-focused adventure bikes has been lifted. Sitting in the middle of Triumph's three-model Tiger 900 range, this beautiful, tech-savvy bike will have road adventure riders salivating to explore our great land.

The revised 2024 Triumph Tiger 900 range shares the same DNA as the outgoing platform, but the characterful 888cc inline three-cylinder engine now has improved safety and increased power and torque all delivered through precise and responsive engine mapping.

For 2024, Triumph has dropped the Rally model, meaning there are now only three bikes in the Tiger 900 range. The GT is the entry-level version, while the Rally Pro is for the dirt-focused adventure riders. The GT Pro sits bang smack in the middle, offering plenty of comfort and state-of-the-art technology.

What does the 2024 Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro cost?

Priced from $24,790 ride away, the Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro comes extremely well-equipped as standard. The premium of $2900 over the entry GT version equips the bike with additional rider assistance features including bi-directional quick shifter, cruise control, heated grips and seats, electronic rear suspension, tire pressure monitoring, LED lighting, centre stand, and a fifth ride mode. For further customisation, the Triumph optional parts list extends to over fifty items.

In the competitive road-focused adventure bike segment, the Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro sits in the middle of the price spectrum. Rivals include the BMW F900 GS ($22,690 ride away), Kawasaki Versys 1000 ($23,165 ride away), Yamaha Tracer 9 GT + ($27,599 ride away) Suzuki V-Strom 800DE ($17,490 ride away), Ducati Multistrada V2 ($24,095 ride away) and the KTM 890 Adventure ($26,575 ride away).

Choosing the top-spec Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro will see you fully off-road capable at $25,950 ride away, with Showa long-travel manual front and rear suspension, 21-inch front and 17-inch rear tubeless spoked rims and an additional Off-Road Pro ride mode. The entry-level GT version starts at $21,850 ride away.

What powers the 2024 Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro?

The 2024 Triumph Tiger 900 range benefits from updates to the 888cc inline three-cylinder engine and exhaust system, giving the platform a new level of performance and sophistication. The engine delivers strong and seamless power thanks to new pistons (compression up to 13.0:1), a new cylinder head, a new inlet and exhaust camshafts, and new intake trumpets. Power figures sit at 106.5hp at 9500rpm (up from 93Hp) and 90Nm (up from 87Nm). Coupled with the lighter and freer flowing single cat exhaust and optional Akrapovic silencer, the sound is quite intoxicating.

What equipment does the 2024 Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro have?

Whilst the motor, exhaust and mapping have undergone significant enhancements, the 2024 Triumph 900 GT Pro is visually similar to the previous model. The Marzocchi manually adjustable 45mm USD fork and electronic monoshock rear, 19-inch front and 17-inch rear spoked rims, Metzler Tourance tyres, and brilliant Brembo Stylema calipers all contribute to a great package.

The redesigned seating (adjustable from 820-840mm) is heated for both rider and pillion, as are the grips. Setting the seat to the maximum height made the riding position perfect for my long legs. Initially I felt much higher than the bike, however it didn’t take long to adjust and, after a whole day in the saddle, occasionally engaging cruise control, the Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro ticked the comfort boxes.

What electronics and safety features does the 2024 Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro have?

The Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro comes with an IMU that enables cornering ABS and cornering traction control, while the excellent Brembo Stylema calipers, slick bi-directional quick shifter, and slip-assist clutch provide confidence in attacking corners, grabbing cogs and changing direction.

There are five ride modes (Rain, Road, Sport, Off-Road and Rider) to choose from and they are displayed clearly on the 7-inch TFT screen with smartphone connectivity. The bike also has the aforementioned heated grips, heated seats, cruise control and electronic rear suspension. On road safety is further enhanced with emergency deceleration lights, front marker lights and LED lighting with DRL.

What is the 2024 Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro like to ride?

Our journey to the beautiful Yarra Valley Region began in the outer west of Melbourne and managed to pick up the tail end of the frenetic morning worker migration to the Big Smoke. Flanked on all sides of the M1 Freeway our convoy easily owned the road space. The Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro certainly has a road presence but it’s also sleek and highly manoeuvrable.

Weighing in at 222kg wet and sitting proudly on the maximum 840mm high seat, this middleweight Tiger was stable, relaxed and effortless. Oh, and did I mention it’s really comfortable?

Clearing the congestion and approaching the hills and meandering roads of the Yarra Valley, I found another strength of this impressive bike. With the addictive exhaust note and generous 9500rpm redline, the acceleration was rapid – this triple does like to sing. Corners arrived quickly and the outstanding Brembo brakes made it easy to settle the bike before the next corner demanded your attention.

Slipping effortlessly through the cogs and settling for Sport mode for optimum throttle response, confidence grew as did one’s willingness to lean further into corners – this thing is like a sports bike. The Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro is intuitive, never surprising and sublime when changing direction on any road surface.

What else do I need to know about the 2024 Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro?

The Triumph 900 GT Pro is a very comfortable, stylish and well-built adventure tourer which adds a dimension of sleekness to the adventure bike genre. It is absolutely comfortable to ride all day, but I did initially feel that I was sitting high on the bike – albeit with the ability to plant both feet easily on the ground. Standing up on the pegs whilst traversing gravel roads was easy but the sleek tank design did not allow much knee grip. The Rally Pro model with standard 21/17-inch wheel configuration and bar risers as standard may offer that additional ergonomic comfort if gravel and dirt roads are more your thing.

Should I buy the 2024 Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro?

To be honest there isn’t much I don’t like about the Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro. It is a tremendous bike and one I would gladly put in my stable. The 222kg wet weight enables effortless launches and delivers rapid acceleration. Stylish, comfortable, playful and agile, this middleweight road-going adventure bike captures the essence and excitement of the adventure experience to perfection.

However, maybe for significant two-up riding I would consider its bigger brother – the Triumph Tiger 1200. I ride a 2019 GS 1250 and with 200kgs of rider, pillion and luggage the Triumph Tiger 900 GT may not be the right one for me.
