Triumph Tiger 1200 Special Editions break cover

Triumph Tiger 1200 Desert Edition and Tiger 1200 Alpine Edition up the ante for Triumph's mid-spec Tiger 1200 XCx and XRx

Triumph has announced details of its new Tiger 1200 Desert Edition and Tiger 1200 Alpine Edition, with the two new variants – based on the mid-spec XCx and XRx Triumph Tiger 1200 variants respectively – packaging exclusive new colour schemes with an Arrow titanium silencer and a quick-shifter on top of the usual array of XCx/XRx features.

Triumph says the new Tiger 1200s have been inspired by the "epic adventures" made by riders across "the most inhospitable deserts in the world" and "one of the most breathtakingly beautiful mountain ranges in the whole world".

The 2020 Triumph Tiger 1200 Desert edition is based on the more off-road focused Triumph Tiger 1200 XCX, and features a 'Sandstorm' paint scheme with Desert Edition graphics, while the 2020 Triumph Tiger 1200 Alpine edition is based on the more road-focused Triumph Tiger 1200 XRx, featuring a 'Snowdonia White' colour scheme with Alpine Edition graphics.

Extra gear now standard

Both these limited-edition models come with a lightweight Arrow titanium silencer, 'metallised' SE radiator badges, and Triumph Shift Assist, the latter affording clutchless gear shifts both up and down through the models' six-speed gearbox.

The street-legal Arrow titanium silencer saves weight and, we're tipping, delivers a stirring note like only a big triple can.

Otherwise the drivetrain remains unchanged, with both bikes powered by Triumph's 1215cc in-line triple engine that delivers a claimed 141hp at 9350rpm and 122Nm at 7600rpm.

Prodigious poke is guaranteed from Triumph's 1215cc inline triple.

Tiger, tiger…

The Triumph Tiger 1200 XCx comes with spoked aluminium wheels and a choice of five ride modes (Rain, Road, Off-road, Off-road PRO and Sport), while the Triumph Tiger 1200 XRx comes with cast-alloy rims and a choice of four ride modes (Rain, Road, Off-road and Sport).
