Triumph Thunderbird to go on sale in October
And check it out on the production lineTriumph delayed the release of its all-new Thunderbird cruiser until the 2010 model year, but it's certainly made up for it with a plethora of public outings ahead of its official Australian release in October.
And there's also now a price for the belt-driven parallel twin, which claims 86ps at 4850rpm and 146Nm at 2750rpm. It's $20,500 (recommended price before dealer and statutory charges).
The Thunderbird has already been seen at the Gold Coast Motorcycle Show, Ulysses Club AGM and Thunder in the High Country Rally, and recently it took pride of place at the All-British Rally in Victoria.
No word of a spot on Mornings with Kerri-Anne or some light-hearted banter with Mel and Kochie, but it must be coming…
Other than the 98 cubic inches -- it is looking to conquer America after all -- the Thunderbird has a 1615mm wheelbase, Showa forks, a mix of Nissin (front) and Brembo (rear) brakes, optional ABS, and a six-speed gearbox. Wet weight is a claimed 339kg, still well below that of Triumph's current cruiser behemoth, the 2.3-litre Rocket III.
Metzeler rubber will track on 19-inch and 17-inch five-spoke cast aluminium-alloy wheels.
The accessories list includes a 1700cc big-bore kit, which will increase torque to a claimed 162Nm.
The international press launch for the Thunderbird was recently held in Spain, and BikePoint wil be riding it in late September.
