The Moto2 World Championship will be powered by Triumph-built engines for another three seasons, with the British marque renewing its deal with Dorna.
Since the 2019 season, Triumph Motorcycles has provided all Moto2 teams with race-tuned 765cc triple cylinder engines, each of which is based on the Street Triple RS power plant. The Moto2 version increases power output by 17 per cent over the production version, and breathes more freely and revs harder.

Dorna’s intent was to bring the Moto2 series closer to MotoGP, and the increase in power and torque, combined with a more advanced electronics package, has given the intermediate category a much-needed overhaul.
The Moto2 category now provides a more relevant training and development ground, and recent graduates have excelled in the premier category, with a number of podiums and victories.
“Our first years together have been a wonderful success and I’d like to thank Triumph for their help and hard work over these first three years – especially during the pandemic,” said Dorna Managing Director, Carlos Ezpeleta. “The FIM, IRTA and Dorna are happy with the results this project has shown and we look forward to three more exciting years together.”
For Triumph, the project has been the perfect opportunity to showcase its ability to build high-performance and high-quality triple cylinder engines.
“Not only has it raised our profile and credibility on the world stage, but the success of Moto2 has also been an incredible catalyst, reigniting the passion for racing within Triumph motorcycles,” said Triumph’s Chief Product Office, Steve Sargent. “We are committed to delivering further improvements to the performance of the engines, which we are sure will be appreciated by both the riders and the teams.”
Triumph has been very active during the pandemic, with a number of new model releases across their roadster, modern classic, and adventure categories. The brand is currently working on a higher-spec Speed Triple RS, as well as a middleweight adventure sport tourer based on the successful Triumph Trident. It also recently announced a new range of enduro and motocross models.
The 2021 MotoGP season is heating up as the year draws closer to its conclusion. The next round is scheduled for this weekend at Silverstone, UK.
