Triumph's new entry-level bike?

A spy photo has been snapped of what could be the British company's entry into the single-cylinder market, but the big question is: what;'s the capacity?

Could this be Triumph’s new entry-level single-cylinder bike running its last pre-production errands?

That’s the word, in what is shaping as a Thai-Indo combo -- kits manufactured in Thailand and then final assembly to take place in India to work around the country’s stiff import tariffs.

The attached photo, courtesy of Chris Doane Automotive, clearly shows a single, which could have a capacity of anywhere between 250 and 400cc – depending on markets. In Australia, 300cc would make sense to take on Kawasaki – and soon to be Honda – at their own game. Or perhaps the KTM 390 Duke could be more of a target.

It has Triumph’s signature nakedbike bug-eyed headlights – which someone has said looks like a wimpy school kid with over-sized glasses – a large exhaust, one-piece seat, a single disc gripped by a basic twin-piston caliper, and skinny forks.

Triumph appears set to trump BMW in releasing a sub-500cc bike, and the logical public entry would be the Milan motorcycle show from November 7-11. Let’s see what eventuates.
