The Triumph Scrambler 1200 line-up has been refreshed for 2024, with the two-bike range set to feature an updated version of the flagship Scrambler 1200 XE and a ‘new’ base model, with the Scrambler 1200 X replacing the previous Scrambler 1200 XC.
Billed by Triumph as a “new choice for our customers”, the 2024 Triumph Scrambler 1200 X will replace the family’s previous entry point, the Scrambler 1200 XC. The new variant is said to be more “accessible”, boasting a lower 820mm seat height (20mm lower than the Scrambler 1200 XC), which can be further lowered to 795mm courtesy of an accessory low seat.
The new variant also comes with a non-adjustable Marzocchi 45mm inverted fork and preload-adjustable Marzocchi twin rear shocks, with 170mm of travel at each end, versus a Showa/Öhlins set-up on the outgoing XC, fully adjustable front and rear, with 200mm of wheel travel. The package also scores optimised cornering ABS and switchable optimised cornering traction control.
The new Triumph Scrambler 1200 X will be priced from $22,600 ride away, representing a drop of $1490 from the Scrambler 1200 XC. The new variant name emphasises its base-model status, simplifying the nomenclature across the Scrambler 1200 family, while the specification changes of both models, the X and the XE, creates a bit more space between the two.
“The Scrambler 1200 X is a new choice for our customers, optimised to deliver the specification riders have asked for, with a lower seat height, even more competitive pricing, and an even better road ride than the previous Scrambler 1200 XC,” said Triumph’s Chief Product Officer, Steve Sargent.
At the pointy end of the family, the Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE has been updated to feature the latest-generation Brembo Stylema radial monobloc front calipers (previously Brembo M50) with a single-piston Nissin caliper at the rear (previously Brembo twin-piston), along with a fully adjustable optimised Marzocchi 45mm inverted fork (previously Showa) and fully adjustable Marzocchi twin rear shocks (previously Öhlins). Wheel travel of 250mm at each end is unchanged.
The model also sports revised intake and exhaust headers for a broader spread of torque through the upper rev range, says Triumph, along with enhanced styling details including new slimline LED indicators and a new LED taillight.
In contrast to the Scrambler 1200 X, the Scrambler 1200 XE has a towering seat height of 870mm.
Rounding out the changes is a new accessory high screen and a new luggage system with tail bag accessory options – just a couple of over 70 genuine accessories available across the Scrambler 1200 range.
The 2024 Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE will be priced from $24,900 ride away, which is $750 less than the existing Scrambler 1200 XE.
“Built for both on-road and off-road adventures, the new Scrambler 1200 XE sets an even higher bar for performance, capability, and modern classic style,” said Sargent.
Both bikes are powered by the same liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, 1200cc parallel-twin engine, producing a claimed 89hp (66.2kW) at 7000rpm and 110Nm at 4250rpm. The power is sent to the rear 17-inch spoked wheel (21-inch up front) via a six-speed gearbox, with the spent gases exiting via an upswept two-into-one exhaust.
The X weighs in at 228kg (wet) while the XE is 230kg, and both bikes are fitted with a 15L fuel tank.
The Scrambler 1200 X will be available in Sapphire Black or prestige hues Carnival Red or Ash Grey, while the Scrambler 1200 XE will come in Sapphire Black or prestige colours Phantom Black/Storm Grey with red accents or Baja Orange/Phantom Black. The prestige colours add $525 to the bike’s price.
The new-look Scrambler 1200 family is due in Australian Triumph dealerships in early 2024.
