European road bikes in general are doing exceptionally well, and the British brand may, if trends continue, find itself competing with Kawasaki for fifth place overall on the tarmac. It sold 811 road bikes, compared to 430 for the same period last year.
This places it well ahead of other European brands such as BMW (329 units), Ducati (340) and Aprilia (245).
"Demand for Triumph motorcycles in 2006 has been exceptional across the entire Triumph range", said Triumph's Paul Grocutt. "Sales of the Sprint ST have risen 130 per cent, Speed Triple 433 per cent, Speedmaster 75 per cent, Tiger 327 per cent, Bonneville 112 per cent and Thruxton 17.8 per cent. The recent change in pricing of the Classic range was undoubtedly a factor, but new models like the Daytona 675 and Scrambler have really added some spice to the mix."
The top three sellers in the range were the Speedmaster (pictured) at 140 units, Sprint ST at 101 and Bonneville at 85.
