Triumph has revived its iconic Daytona moniker, with the new three-cylinder Daytona 660 set to arrive down under in March.
The new middleweight sportsbike utilises the same platform as the Trident 660 roadster and Tiger Sport 660 tourer, but adds more punch, equipment and tech.
UPDATE (11/01/24): Pricing the new Daytona 660 will start at $14,790 ride away for both full-power and LAMS variants. For reference, the Trident (LAMS) currently checks in at $14,240 ride away, while the Tiger Sport (LAMS) checks in at $15,390 ride away.
The 2024 Triumph Daytona 660 slots into the growing middleweight sportsbike division and will compete strongly with the likes of the Yamaha YZF-R7, Aprilia RS 660, and Kawasaki Ninja 650.
Punching out 93hp and 69Nm in full-power trim, the Daytona 660 sees an evolution of the triple-cylinder platform, with a focus on mixing sports performance with everyday practicality. According to Triumph, the bike provides “smooth, responsive, and linear delivery with a perfect balance of low-down torque, mid-range, and top-end power.”
The chassis is designed for agile sports handling and all-day comfort, while suspension is managed by a Showa USD big-piston 41mm fork, and a Showa preload-adjustable monoshock. Braking power is courtesy of radial four-piston brakes with 310mm discs and braided brake lines, and paired with Michelin Power 6 rubber and Continental ABS.
Technology includes a TFT screen integrated on an LCD display, three ride modes, and switchable traction control, while smartphone connectivity, a quickshifter, and tire pressure monitoring can be added as optional accessories.
The Daytona name was first used by Triumph in the early 1990s and has subsequently been used on a range of different sports-orientated machines. Most recently, it was used for a special-edition Daytona Moto2 765 sportsbike.
Order books for the Daytona 660 are open now and the bike will offer 16,000km service intervals and a two-year unlimited kilometer warranty. Pricing is expected to be announced very soon, while the first units will hit dealer floors in March.
