2012 will be a big year for British motorcycle builder Triumph, primarily because it is celebrating its 110th birthday – let the special editions commence!
The first cab off the rank, or bike off the supply line as it was, is the aptly named Triumph Bonneville T100 110th Anniversary Edition.
Coming to Australia from May, the Triump Boneville T100 110th Anniversary Edition will be priced at $14,390, but like the last special edition classic bike - the Steve McQueen (which sold out in a matter of weeks) - potential customers are "advised to reserve their bike early" says Triumph.
Mechanically the bike appears to be identical to the regular Bonneville, powered by the familiar air-cooled DOHC 865cc parallel twin cylinder engine churning out a credible 68hp at 7500rpm and 68Nm at 5800rpm.
Look closely at the fuel-injected retro bike and you’ll see some unique stuff on the Triumph Bonneville T100 110th Anniversary Edition, such as a chrome-plated chain guard (it’s usually black) and custom green/silver paint work.
There’s also a special anniversary crest on the side panel that commemorates more than just Triumph’s history. It’s depicts three small dots, which Triumph says represents the three historic locations of Hinkley, Coventry and Meriden, along with the Queen’s crown.
Mal Jarrett, marketing manager for Triumph Australia, said: "We're delighted to be launching our 110th anniversary year with this iconic limited edition production run. The 'Bonnie' is synonymous with the heritage of the Triumph brand and the perfect canvas for a special edition model.
"While we're pushing forward the boundaries of technology with innovation such as the ride-by-wire system on the new Tiger Explorer, it's still important to recognise where we've come from and this 110th edition T100 does just that."
