It's official -- the Triumph's new adventure bike will be called the Tiger 800.
New documents filed by CARB, or the California Air Resources Board, have given the game away, confirming both the name of the two new bikes, and also their capacity.
As the Bikesales Network predicted two weeks ago, the new 800cc three-cylinder adventure bikes will be called the Triumph Tiger 800 and Triumph Tiger 800XC, the former designed for touring, the latter suited to more rugged pursuits.
In addition to the new name and engine displacement of the Tiger 800, other features that we know of include a tubular steel frame, 21-inch front wheel for the XC model, ABS, and a dynamic new design that borrows styling cues from the Speed and Street Triple with prominent twin headlights (the new look can be gleaned from the line drawing [third image] that was recently leaked).
What we don't know yet is how much power the finished product will produce or how much it will weigh, or how large the fuel tank will be.
As a direct rival to the BMW F800 GS, peak power and torque are likely to be around 100hp (74kW) and 90Nm to ensure class-leading status; Triumph is quietly confident its new model will outperform the German bike in most respects.
The Hinckley-based company is priming the new Tiger 800 for its first public debut at EICMA 2010 in Italy on November 2, but expect a few more tidbits to emerge before then.
