Anyone considering buying a new Yamaha will soon have an even tougher decision ahead of them, with three new high-profile Yamaha models poised to hit Aussie dealer showrooms next month.
Yamaha Motor Australia has confirmed the 2023 Yamaha Tracer GT+, 2023 Yamaha Tracer 7, and 2023 Yamaha Ténéré 700 World Raid will all be reaching our shores in August, although specific on-sale dates will vary as stock rolls out through the national dealer network.
Building on the previous Yamaha Tracer GT, the 2023 Yamaha Tracer GT+ essentially continues the theme but adds sophisticated radar-based technology like Adaptive Cruise Control and a radar-linked Unified Brake System. The ACC essentially allows the bike to follow a vehicle at a set distance and maintain that distance despite fluctuations in speed, while the UBS offers forward collision warning and mild autonomous emergency braking in the event of a potential collision.
That’s on top of an updated 7-inch TFT display, a third-generation bi-directional quickshifter, semi-active KYB suspension, smartphone connectivity and navigation, and integrated ride modes, making this adventure-sport bike one of the most technologically advanced models of its category.
Mechanically the model remains unchanged from the previous Tracer GT, with the grunt delivered by Yamaha’s 890cc ‘CP3’ crossplane-crank triple. The unit churns out 119hp (87.5kW) at 10,000rpm and 93Nm at 7000rpm, in a package tipping the scales at 223kg wet. Pricing will be announced closer to the model’s local launch.
Dropping down in engine capacity, August will also see the arrival of the new Yamaha Tracer 7 – a middleweight sportstourer shown at last year’s EICMA motorcycle expo in Italy but previously thought unlikely to return to Australia, given the modest sales of its LAMS-approved predecessor.
This time around, however, we’re getting the High Output model, along with a heap of new and updated features to tempt those after a manageable and agile point-to-point machine.
Powered by Yamaha’s 689cc ‘CP2’ parallel-twin, the Tracer 7 produces a very handy 73.4hp (54kW) at 8750rpm and 67Nm at 6500, in a svelte package weighing 197kg wet. Key features include a 5-inch TFT screen with smartphone connectivity, LED projector headlights and position lights, USB and 12V charging outlets, an adjustable screen, a half-fairing, 17L fuel capacity, and relaxed yet sporty ergonomics.
The 2023 Yamaha Tracer 7 is priced at $15,999 ride away.
Last, but certainly not least, is the 2023 Yamaha Ténéré 700 World Raid. Along with updates that also appear on the base model, such as a new 5-inch TFT screen with smartphone connectivity, three-mode ABS, a redesigned front brake lever, a new USB socket, and LED indicators, the World Raid variant adds a 23-litre tank, extra suspension travel, an Öhlins steering damper, and a taller windshield, among other features.
For Ténéré owners who want to go further and harder, the newcomer will fit the bill nicely. The 2023 Yamaha Ténéré 700 Word Raid is priced at $25,499 ride away.
