Healthy signs of post-pandemic motorcycling are emerging with rider training school Trials Experience announcing upcoming dates for its popular courses throughout Australia including Victoria, kicking off from October 4.
All five courses involve balancing an ultra-lightweight and seat-less trials bike through tricky, technical terrain without putting a foot down. The courses are designed to help riders of all ages, abilities and motorcycling disciplines – including road riders – to focus on body position and balance, ’peg weighting as well as ultra-fine level control.

Advice: Preparing for your first trailride
Courses grade between Level 1 (for students who have never ridden a motorcycle) and Level 5 (for experienced trail and enduro riders looking to focus on improving specific techniques). Level 3, meanwhile, is well suited to road riders.
The school offers private group sessions in all locations as well as various enduro/trials and adventure/trials combined courses with a special course on November 21-22 near Robertson, NSW, through ADV Riders NSW Group.
The sport of trials is often regarded as a great learning tool for off-road riders learning to tackle obstacles effortlessly. The slow-speed skills and finesse learned are also handy for road riders wanting to improve bike control at slower speeds and in tighter situations (i.e. weaving through stationary cars, U-turns).
“The main purpose of the classes is to reset the motorcycling foundations for a lot of people in a slow scenario,” Trials Experience head coach Paul Bray says.
“These bikes are like tuning forks. By going so slow on uneven ground they expose where you hold your balance or where you perhaps don’t have great balance. They also teach you great finesse with the controls. When we build those foundations we can be a lot more efficient in our body movements, gain traction, balance, focus and overall control when we get thrown into obstacles or difficult terrain.
“Trials is a skillful discipline. More than half of the students we get are adventure and road-going adventure riders and the rest are traditional off-road riders. They just want to be more efficient and do more from less. Some of the enduro guys secretly do this course to get the one-up on their riding mates. And they all return for more.”
