
The passage of motorsport vehicles from the Continent to the UK may not be such a seamless exercise in the future following customs officers finding illegal drugs and a firearm in the Kawasaki world Superbike race transporter during a routine examination in Dover last month.
According a report in UK newspaper the Telegraph, customs officers discovered 8kg of cocaine, 71kg of amphetamine tablets and more than 100kg of cannabis during the inspection – as well as a handgun and 35 rounds of ammunition.
The Kawasaki transporter was on its way back to its UL base in Morecambe, Lancashire after the word, Superbike round at Assen.

Four technicians from Paul Bird Motorsport -- the company which runs the Kawasaki team – were arrested on suspicion of firearms offences and importing controlled drugs. They were later bailed.
