Trans-Atlantic superbike breaks cover

Ecosse Spirit launched at Laguna

Trans-Atlantic start-up Ecosse Spirit unveiled its ambitious ES1 prototype at the recent Laguna Seca MotoGP and hopes to have a working model up and running in 2008.

The team behind the machine claim extensive F1 racing development experience.

Developed around the premise of getting the most efficient airflow possible, the machine claims a drag factor half that of a normal motorcycle thanks in part to some unique design elements.

Front and rear suspension are quite different to a conventional set-up, employing torsion springs at both ends, with a dual wishbone on the front.

The rear swingarm is carbon fibre, while the chain drive is a double-chain system employing a transfer shaft.

At the moment the engine spec is vague -- a one-litre four is the current promise. The company hopes to build an initial batch of 10 motorcycles and eventually ramp up to 100 per year.
