The relentless march of technology rolled on in 2019 – here are just some examples of the cutting-edge innovations potentially heading our way…

1. Mobile phone-detecting speed cameras come online

NSW Police has rolled out world-first camera technology to catch drivers illegally using mobile phones, which could spell a big leap safety for more vulnerable road user and pedestrians if it actually convinces motorists to instead focus their attention on the road.

New cameras in NSW can now catch motorists illegally using a mobile phone. The technology is sure to spread quickly to help combat the modern scourge of our roads, driver distraction.

2. Kawasaki patents liquid-cooled e-machine

Team Green is hard at work on a liquid-cooled electric bike – or group of bikes – and an electric version of its brutal H2 hyperbike could be on the cards. With near instant maximum torque, that should be something truly special…

3. Bosch begins trials of Advanced Rider Assistance System

For years now cars have benefitted from advanced safety systems like adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, and collision mitigation – and now it seems Bosch is close to releasing a motorcycle-specific package of these same cutting-edge technologies.

4. Ducati showcases bike-to-car technology in Vegas

Ducati, meanwhile, has been collaborating with some major car brands to bring the benefits of V2V (vehicle-to-vehicle) technology to the motorcycle world, thereby potentially heading off countless bike/car collisions before they occur.

V2V (vehicle-to-vehicle) technology could help drivers to detect a rider before any collision.

5. BMW envisions an electric boxer

Not getting left behind in the race to eco-friendly power, BMW announced its examining e-power in the form its striking concept, the Vision DC Roadster. This is a flat-twin the likes of which we've never seen before – now let's see if it leads to a production model, ala Harley-Davidson LiveWire.

BMW caused quite a stir with its Vision DC Roadster. Now let's see the Germany manufacturer go ahead and build it!
