Top five new motorcycles of 2010

Let's take a look back at the new hardware which tickled our fancy over the last year - and there's been some good stuff

Mark Fattore
1. Ducati Multistrada 1200 -- This is an adventure bike that maintains high standards wherever it goes: photos don't lie!
2. Triumph Sprint GT --
The words grunty, manageable and
versatile spring to mind. It really does talk the talk, without really
losing any of its sporting edge. And the engine has a pleasant note,
with gearing that is spot-on – even if you want to tip-toe along at a
sedate pace.

3. BMW S 1000 RR -- Superbike sophistication has just reached a new level
with an electronics package that is the envy of all others. Sports bike
magic.
4. Honda VFR1200F -- a sportstourer with a serious sporting bent, which is why Honda chose to hold the world launch on a race track. Stonking engine, phenomenal brakes and Honda's renowned attention to detail and finish.
5. Husqvarna TE310 --
Light enough to
throw around in the tight stuff, feels slender, handles beautifully, and
has the performance to carry off everything from on-the-limit antics to
lazy trail riding.

Honourbale mention: Kawasaki Z1000

Rod Chapman

1 BMW S 1000 RR – Awesome performance, awesome features, awesome look. What more could you want in a sports bike?
2 Ducati Multistrada 1200S – A true jack of all trades, with a clever electronics package that’s leading the way.
3 Triumph Thunderbird – Comfort, class, and a sales smash hit. Who would have thought a big-bore parallel-twin could prove so tempting?
4 Honda VFR1200F – Beautiful finish, top performance, just a shame about the fuel range.
5 Suzuki GSX1250FA – Okay, so it’s not exactly ‘new’, like the other bikes here. But at $13,990, this has to be the budget big-bore sportstourer of the year.

1 Ducati Multistrada 1200 – Surprisingly easy to ride, capable, and with stump-pulling power. It can be all things to all people, has plenty of street cred and can be on the race track one day then the dirt track the next. It's also got some nice electronic magics that keep you on the straight and narrow.
2 Aprilia RSV4 R – Not as expensive as the Factory bike but unless you’re Biaggi you'll probably never feel the difference. Phenomenal power, incredible chassis feedback and drop-dead gorgeous looks. I want a pay rise so I can buy one...
3 Honda VFR1200F – At first it was a strange thing and not at all appealing, but the more I rode the bike the more it seemed to make sense. If you can get past the price and the awfully small fuel tank, you'll find a very comfortable motorcycle that's surprisingly rewarding to ride.
4 Kawasaki Z1000 – Make mine a naked thanks! This motorcycle has almost convinced me that naked bikes are the new sports bikes, and what they lose in aerodynamics they make up with in riding comfort and flickability. And this particular model has an engine to die for.
5 Zero S – This electric motorcycle won't be to everyone's taste and its practical cruising range of around 60 kilometres is limiting, but it can really fang and is super nimble. Plus it's battery powered so no more fuel bills. And at $12,990 it's not a bad price for cutting-edge motorcycle technology.
