Grabbing plenty of attention at Yamaha’s stand at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show (November 20 to December 1) was this café racer concept bike, which is based on the marque’s recently released Bolt bobber.
Adopting the same tubular steel cradle frame and 950cc V-twin engine as the Bolt, this very tidy offering features a solo seat, low clip-on ’bars, ’bar-end mirrors, minimalist guards and fork gaiters.
The machine retains the Bolt’s brake set-up (with a single wave disc front and rear) and Öhlins piggyback rear shocks, but adds numerous stylistic touches like the race number (ala Moto Guzzi V7 Racer), tan seat and handgrips, minimalist bullet indicators, and a different exhaust (in more of a megaphone style).
Here at Bikesales Network, we think it looks great -- a fitting rival for Moto Guzzi’s V7 Racer or Triumph’s Thruxton -- but Yamaha has stressed it’s purely a design exercise and an example of what Bolt owners can achieve with some tasteful customisation.
