Reigning MX Nationals MX1 champion, Todd Waters, will compete in the Australian Off-Road Championships in 2020.
Waters will compete in the E2 class with backing from Husqvarna Australia and Berry Sweet Strawberry Farm.
Remarkably, the Queenslander will also defend the MX Nationals title which he won for the first time in 2019.
“I’m excited to be doing AORC,” he said. “I love riding in the bush. It’s a completely different atmosphere to competitive motocross and supercross. It’s a lot more relaxed and the tracks are a lot longer.”
Waters admits that defending his motocross title is the priority, but saw the chance to race AORC as a way to get more time on the bike.
“The dates aligned for me, and didn’t clash with our motocross championship,” he explained. “At the moment, the priority is to defend my motocross title. But I just wanted to race more, and I love riding motorbikes.”

While it’s not uncommon for motocross riders to make the switch to off-road racing, it is unusual for a rider to compete in both championships full time, especially if that rider is the defending MX1 champion. But Waters is up for the challenge and hopes he can be a ‘dark horse'.
“We’ve set goals, but I’ll keep them to myself,” he explained. “I’ve got no experience in the championship and the different formats might take some getting used to. But I’m looking forward to the challenge. “
The opening two rounds of the 2020 Australian Off-Road Championship will take place this weekend, Feb 22-23, in Toowoomba.
