World MXGP rider Todd Waters will return home to campaign the 2016 motocross and supercross seasons, racing in the newly formed 'Factory Suzuki MX1 Racing Team'. Under the experienced eye of team manager Neale Wilson, Waters and 2016 teammate Luke Wilson will be riding Wilson MX-prepared Suzuki RM-Z450s in both the domestic MX and SX series.
Riding for the Red Bull IceOne Husqvarna Factory Racing team, Waters finished ninth overall in the 2015 MXGP behind title won by Romain Febvre but revealed a return to Australia had been on the cards.
“After Motocross des Nations this year I started having some talks with Australian teams, and Suzuki and Neale Wilson ended up being the one’s who could offer me something that was the perfect fit,“ he said. “I am just so excited to be racing in Australia next year. Dean Ferris is back, Kirk Gibbs has just won the championship and Matt Moss is always strong, so as far as I’m concerned it’s going to be an awesome year.”
Neale, who has six years of team management experience, said: “We are very pleased to have Todd returning from Europe to race with us next year, and we are confident that with his previous experience on the Suzuki and also his recent experience racing the MXGP, that he will be a championship contender in 2016.”
Wilson MX will continue with Jason Corney as head mechanic while Suzuki’s former team manager Jay Foreman will remain involved in a mentoring role.
