KTM’s Toby Price has stormed through rounds three and four of the 2011 Yamaha Australian Off Road Championship in Hedley (Vic) on May 28-29.
On Saturday, Price took line honours ahead of Husqvarna’s Glenn Kearney and Yamaha’s Chris Hollis in the gruelling three-hour cross-country race, and then today he made it a double by dominating in the action-packed Sprint format, this time by upstaging Yamaha’s Matt Phillips and his team-mate – former world champion Stefan Merriman.
Price dropped three of the day’s six sprint races to Phillips, however his overall times were enough to earn him outright victory for the day.
“We had a big break following round one, but from the weekend’s results we are right back in it and that’s good to see,” Price said. “Hopefully we can keep the KTM up front from now on, keep chipping away at those points and hopefully get back into the lead. It’s nice to get back racing again and hopefully we can keep that confidence high and keep moving forward.”
After a DNF in round one, Price has now moved up to second in the championship behind Hollis.
“I rode pretty well this weekend,” Hollis said. “On Saturday, midway through the I started to hunt down Toby, but then I had a minor crash that set me back.
“Today was pretty good, and the other guys were just riding faster. The conditions were rough and sandy, but I quite enjoyed the weekend.
“I’m really looking forward to the next rounds at Dungog. It’ll be good to have a two-day enduro format, and they always have pretty cool events there. I can’t wait.”
