Darcy Ward has advanced to the semi-final stage of the 2011 Under 21 Speedway World Championship following an impressive performance in the final qualifying event in Croatia on May 21.
Clearing a path to the next round ensures the dream of a third consecutive world championship remains well and truly alive for the 19-year-old Queenslander.
Coming into the meet on the back of a good run of form on the British and Polish domestic scene, Ward wasted no time asserting himself on the event, winning his opening heat.
With the solid foundation laid, Ward then backed up with a second place finish followed by two impressive heat wins.
Rounding out the night with a second in his fifth and final heat, Ward accumulated 13pts to finish second overall and comfortably qualify for the next phase of the championship, either a semi-final in Slovakia (June 4) or Poland (June 25).
Ward will be joined by Aussie compatriots Josh Grajszonek, Justin Sedgmen and Richard Sweetman in the next stage.
