Last week’s first episode of InsureMyRide The Ultimate Rider saw 39-year-old AMCN editor Sam Maclachlan ace the series’ first reward challenge. The real-life ex-postie beat the other six contestants in a time trial to deliver letters to a series of mailboxes dotted around an obstacle course.
Despite missing the first cone, Sam impressed former 500 GP winner and judge Daryl Beattie to get the jump on the other six competitors to win the first prize of $20,000. And for viewers, they can enter a draw to win a Honda CBR1000RR. “For the most mature rider in The Ultimate Rider (Sam) to come out top straightaway, I think it’s opened a few eyes,” Beattie said.

The first week’s wooden spoon went to 18-year-old Mitch Levy, who drove straight past one mailbox and nearly came off the Honda CT 110 in his rush to beat the clock. He was put on notice to work on his smoothness and consistency by Daryl, who has concerns about the youngster’s lack of focus.
“When I watch him ride he looks like he’s had a handful of energy drinks and a handful of lollies,” he said.
The other contestants on InsureMyRide The Ultimate Rider are Brody Nowlan, Glenn Scott, Alex Cudlin, Kyle Buckley and Daniel Falzon. Click here to read the rider profiles
This week’s episode, which will go to air on ONE at 6.00pm on November 3 (and available to watch on-line at www.theultimateride.com.au shortly thereafter) will see the riders climb aboard a Honda CRF230F and test their mettle on Honda Australia’s Rider’s Training’s dirt course in Somerton (Vic).
