The Ultimate Rider

Some of the nation's top motorcycle riders test their mettle in a new television program which starts on Saturday, October 27
A brand new challenge-based motorcycle television program will commence on ONE at 6.30pm on October 27: ‘InsureMyRide The Ultimate Rider’. It will air straight after the Saturday telecast of the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix from Phillip Island.
The program pits six motorcycle racers and one motorcycle scribe against each other in a series of adventures, from the orthodox to wacky where danger is ever-present. Challenges will include delivering the mail on a CT110 to skills assessments, fitness tests, analytics, braking shootouts and riding in the wet – with plenty of other surprises in the pipeline as the stakes increase over eight action-packed weeks.
The contestants – Sam Maclachlan, Brody Nowlan, Glenn Scott, Alex Cudlin, Kyle Buckley, Mitch Levy and Daniel Falzon – will be under the watchful eye of former 500 GP winner Daryl Beattie and Team Honda Racing principal Paul Free. In the same vein as a motorcycle championship, the riders will accumulate points, so the stakes are high. The top three riders after the preliminaries will then fight it out in the grand finale until only one is left standing.
Falzon, Scott, Day, Levy and Buckley are all racing in the Supersport and Superstock support classes at this weekend’s AirAsia Australian Motorcycle Grand at Phillip Island, while 26-year-old Cudlin has won the past two Qatar road racing titles, and finished fourth in this year’s Endurance World Cup. Nowlan competed in the 2010 Red Bull Rookies MotoGP Cup, which is acknowledged as one of the biggest road racing talent factories on the planet.
“These young guys really are the cream of the crop in this country,” said Beattie.
“But just because they have the talent, doesn’t mean they will crack the big time. The “InsureMyRide The Ultimate Rider” series will elevate one of them even closer to fulfilling their dream.”
Mark Behr, InsureMyRide Marketing Manager, said the program was a perfect fit for the brand.
“InsureMyRide is not just about great value insurance, it’s also about investing in the bike community,” Behr said.
“This series will give these riders a massive opportunity to compete in the big time. Apart from the winner receiving $20,000 and a Team Honda Racing contract, there’s also a chance for a lucky viewer to win the actual Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade used in the series.”
Episode one of InsureMyRide The Ultimate Rider will see each contestant ride against the clock to deliver mail to a series of numbered boxes on a CT110, with the focus on acceleration, braking and cornering. Will they scrape their bags like a real postie? The best performer will win an experience money can’t buy: Dinner with Daryl and Paul.
Following on from the 6.30pm debut on ONE, InsureMyRide The Ultimate Rider, hosted by Klara Lisy, the episode will be repeated on ONE at 5.30pm (but check local guides) on October 28. Thereafter, the balance of the series will be screened at 6.00pm on Saturdays, starting from November 3.
