A large group of kids with the illness recently got to take a break on the back of a motorcycle for a day, doing a tour of the outskirts of Melbourne and were hosted to a barbecue along the way.
Spokesman Colin "Taxi" Fletcher says the event was originally started by the Western Suburbs Motorcycle Club some 15-or-so years ago and was eventually taken over by the Masons as the organisational task became more complex. He has been to all of them.
An eclectic mix of machinery turns up for the event, everything from Hayabusas to Harleys, and the kids get to select what machine they prefer. Looks aren’t everything, apparently – according to one enthusiastic boy, "It has to be loud."
Fletcher explained, "It started as a nice easy ride, where the kids don’t have to buy or flog anything. They just get to have a good day out."
