If you think Japanese motorcyclists are obsessed with home-grown products, think again. This 2002 Harley-Davidson Sportster is the daily ride of one Wakako Togashi, one of the designers at custom bike shop Hide Motorocycle in Japan.
Though there is plenty of new kit coming out of the Nihon over the next few months, including updated Suzuki GSX-Rs and Kawasaki Ninjas, there's still a lot of passion for American motorcycles, and this is a case in point.
The H-D Sportster 883R has been customised to deliver a dirt tracker look and feel, and according to its owner it's a comfortable machine to ride.
Togashi-san has fitted a range of new parts to the Harley, including a chunky SuperTrapp two-into-two dual muffler system, which no doubt gives the bike more voice. The motorcycle has been lowered to improve dynamics - and aesthetics - and there's plenty of new kit from the Hidemo (Hide Motorcycle) range of custom parts.
Most obvious are custom parts like the leather seat section, the custom fuel tank and, rear guard, and handlebars, plus the brake lights and numberplate holder have been modified, all of which provide the bike with classic racer appeal.
Along with finishing touches like ye olde Firestone tyres and altered indicators, this particular Japanese-tuned Harley-Davidson is an indication of how strong the Japanese custom bike scene is these days.
