It's now 40 years since the legendary Z1 was first released, and to celebrate the ‘Z' lineage Kawasaki has released an on-line photo storyWhen it was unveiled in 1972, Kawasaki’s Z1 became the first mass-produced sports bike to feature DOHC four-cylinder engine technology – in this case 903cc.
With all the key ingredients in place – performance and sleek design the biggest hits – the Z1 became a roaring success and inevitably became the foundation of a family tree that still exists today with the 1043cc Z1000.
