After a stunning third place at Phillip Island during the 2010 Australian MotoGP, his 12th consecutive podium at the Island, the Doctor also found time to help out the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).
The world's most famous MotoGP rider, together with Yamaha, donated a special edition Yamaha YZF-R1SP for a raffle, with the proceeds going to Australia's famous Flying Doctors who service some of the countries harshest and most remote locations.
"The Limited Edition Rossi R1SP was the perfect vehicle for this purpose," said YMA communications manager Sean Goldhawk.
"There was a huge amount of race goers willing to grab a chance to win the bike with the great man's signature while Rossi was showcasing his skills out on the track. YMA is delighted to be in a position to assist this landmark Australian organisation," added Goldhawk.
But riders keen to get their hands on the special edition Rossi YZF-R1SP should not fret, as the limited numbers of the bike are available at Yamaha dealers priced from $21,299 before on-road costs, and also feature $1000 cashback and free GYTR mufflers worth $1590.
The Yamaha YZF-R1SP earned the Royal Flying Doctors "more than $50,000" according to Yamaha, and it was a stroke of genius in terms of marketing too, the special Rossi R1SP bike attracting hundreds of visitors to the RFDS stand at the Moto GP Expo tent.
And the winner of the prize? Construction manager Emilio Calandra from Hunters Hill, NSW.
It should be mentioned however, that Emilio was pretty keen on the special edition R1, and bought more than $100 worth of raffle tickets. Not bad for a bloke without a motorcycle licence, though he said he will now "fast track" his training.
