MotoGP is stepping up its North American presence after confirming the championship will swing through Texas for the third round of the 2013 season.
The race will be held at the Circuit of The Americas in early 2013, joining the likes of the V8 Supercars which will also be heading there next year.
The latest addition to the Motorcycle Grand Prix series will take place in Texas between April 19 and 21 next year, and as the chief executive officer for Dorna Sports (commercial rights holder of MotoGP), Carmelo Ezpeleta said, there's a lot of interest surrounding the Texan race.
"We are excited to be working with Circuit of The Americas to expand our programming in the United States and bring our series to an exceptional new Grand Prix facility in Texas.
"We see tremendous opportunities to market MotoGP and grow its fan-base through this agreement," noted Mr Ezpeleta.
However the latest addition to the MotoGP calendar is not without controversy.
Former 500cc GP world champion Kevin Schwantz has sued Circuit of the Americas due to an alleged breach of contract. The Texan native claims that his company, 3fourTexasMGP, had an agreement with Circuit of The Americas to promote the MotoGP race until 2022, but the circuit operators reckon such a deal was never official.
The court case is still in progress.
