More than 190 KTM adventure riders lapped Tasmania late last month for the fourth annual KTM Australia Adventure Rallye.
Most riders were Australians and a few even rode 4000-plus kilometres to reach the Rallye before returning home afterwards. They were joined by KTM enthusiasts from New Zealand and as far as Greece and the United States.
The Rallye officially started at Cradle Mountain and Tasmania’s typically fickle weather saw snow falling on departure and temperatures as low as two degrees. Just to keep it interesting, it also hailed _ three times _ during the opening 381km main route and 411km (more difficult) breakout route to Strahan!
The second day consisted of a 374km (main route) or 403km (breakout route) ride from Strahan to Hobart, where the sun finally began to shine on the Rallye.
A 318km (main route) and 346km (breakout route) journey from Hobart to Swansea was the adventure for day three and it didn't disappoint. The Swanston Track offered a real highlight for those who took on the challenging breakout route, before Swansea provided one of the more stunning overnight locations of the trip.
KTM Australia unleashed its major surprise on day four between Swansea and St Helens when special guest Daniel Milner of the KTM Enduro Racing Team debuted the highly-anticipated 2019 KTM 790 Adventure R!
The yet-to-be-released model was introduced at the top of Jacobs Ladder and piloted by reigning Australian off-road champion Milner for the rest of the Rallye.
The fifth and final day saw KTM-mounted riders roll from St Helens to Launceston in a brilliant 297km (main route) or 313km (breakout route) ride in outstanding weather.
A stop in the town of Derby coincided with the Enduro World Series mountain-bike event which added to the momentous memories encountered during the Tasmanian trip.
There were no mechanical DNFs were recorded and no serious mishaps.
