Take the toys on tour

This Aussie-made 'toy hauler' caravan holds plenty of appeal for dirt bike riders, with enough room for three people and two bikes

A Melbourne-based motorhome specialist has developed its first 'toy hauler' caravan, specifically aimed at dirt bike enthusiasts. This compact, three-berth caravan from Sunliner features a traditional kitchen/living area at the front, with a separate garage/sleeping area in the rear. The two areas are divided by a wall with a door to access the main bed from inside the van.

The 'garage' area is just big enough for a double bed mattress that can be raised and lowered on its base via a 12V battery-powered lift system. By raising the mattress towards the 2m-high ceiling, two people can sleep comfortably while allowing room for a couple of motorbikes - or jet skis, mountain bikes, or other items - on the reinforced floor beneath.

Taury Adams from Sunliner dealer Melbourne RV said the RV was "about four months in development", and was driven by the passion of a number of Sunliner staff who enjoyed outdoor pursuits, including motocross. "We did a smaller prototype first, and now have done a couple of production versions. We plan to roll them out to Sunliner dealers around Australia soon," he said.

The fully insulated van also features a four-person dinette which converts to another single bed, plus a roll-out awning, skylights, shower/toilet, 12V/240V electrics, gas hot water, TV with digital antenna, CD/radio with internal and external speakers, gas cooktop/oven, stainless steel sink, microwave and fridge/freezer. The company also has plans to produce bigger models including a longer, twin-axle version that can sleep up to six people.

Final specifications, model names and pricing are due to be released soon. See the Sunliner website for further details.
