Sydney Scooter Expo

The first ever Sydney scooter expo will take place at St Ives north of town, including workshops, free test rides and possibly a bouncy castle

Sydney scooterists rejoice, for the 2011 National Scooter Rally will be taking place in your backyard, alongside Sydney's first ever Scooter Expo on Saturday, September 10.

The Sydney Scooter Expo that runs in tandem with the National Scooter Rally will be of interest not just to scooter riders, but to those looking to introduce others into the scene and reborn riders keen to try out the latest scooters.

All the major brands will be in attendance at the Sydney Scooter Expo, which takes place at the HART centre in St Ives (451 Mona Vale Road), and they are all offering test rides. The likes of Vespa, Honda, and Yamaha will be among the attending marques offering something than 100 different scooters in total.

Free test rides will be available on a large number of different scooters on HART's rider training facility, with experts on hand to explain all whys and wherefores of the humble scooter.

The Sydney Scooter Expo is a free event and will include lots of things to see and do, including 'Survive The Ride' workshops and giveaways too.

Running alongside the Sydney Scooter Expo, the National Scooter Rally will take place in around Sydney and is expected to attract scooter riders in big numbers. The National Scooter Rally's aim is to promote the use of scooters as a viable mode of transport in modern society, and will feature several rides and activities for attendees.

Some of the themes that will be promoted include reduced commuting times, reduced costs and increased travelling enjoyment.

"Scooters have been used as cheap reliable forms of transport for decades," states the organiser, "and still to this day, the humble scooter could play a part in solving Sydney's congestion woes."

The National Scooter Rally costs $25 to sign up and this covers the cost of the three day event on Friday September 9 to Sunday September 11, which buys you a meal, itinerary maps, ID and lanyards, plus voting slips and entry into the show and shine competition.

The show and shine comp will appeal to scooter owners who take pride in their ride, and will feature a range of categories for scooterists to enter, including:

  • Best auto scooter to 200cc;
  • Best auto to 300cc;
  • Best maxi scooter (above 300cc);
  • Best geared scooter up to and including 150cc;
  • Best geared above 150cc;
  • Best custom/modified scooter;
  • Best 'rat' scooter; and
  • Furthest ridden
