The industry as a whole is obviously feeling pretty buoyant, with big, well-stocked, stands and quite a few new models.

Also we saw the emergence of a few new brands, such as Pagsta in small bikes, and heaps of scooter marques such as Daelim and electric scoot firm EVT.

Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries head Peter Sturrock opened the event, suggesting the industry was on track for a record sales figure of 90,000 new units this year. No wonder they're feeling buoyant!

Celebrities were the name of the game when it came to the opening: TV host and former V8 racer Neil Crompton was MC for the opening, Olympic swimmer Kieren Perkins and actor/adventurer/new Paris-Dakar entrant Charley Boorman (of Long Way Round fame -- pictured with Crompton) represented BMW, while former Australian Idol contestant Shannon Noll made an appearance for Yamaha. If racers were more your style, rally champ Cody Crocker and superbike supremo Shawn Giles were also in attendance.

Several important models made their local debut, including: Kawasaki ZX-10R, BMW HP2 R1200 variant, Harley Superglide 6-speed, Ducati's new retro two-valvers, Guzzi Griso, Buell Ulysses, Yamaha R6, Suzuki GSX-R600, Cagiva Raptor 650, Honda Fireblade - to name a few.
