
The Geneva auto salon has produced a couple of surprises for motorcyclists, the most spectacular being the Swiss-designed Monotracer, a development of the Ecomobile which has struggled to find a market over the years.
The new machine runs tandem seating and is based around a BMW K-series powerplant but is considerably longer than a motorcycle and features a fully-enclosed cabin with gullwing door.
Monotracer says it will be putting the machine into low-volume production in 2009, planning on just 100 units.
Like its predecessor, it claims a high top speed - 250km/h - thanks largely to its streamlining.
It leans and handles much like a long-wheelbase motorcycle, with a phenomenal claimed max lean angle of 52 degrees.
Two outrigger wheels are deployed at low speed to stabilise the machine.
Creature comforts in the cabin include air-conditioning, GPS and audio system all of which comes at a fairly hefty price of $86,500 plus taxes.
