Swedish SGP: Holder third, Crump seventh

In an event won by local hero Fredrik Lindgren, Australia's Chris Holder came out with the biggest points haul and is now fourth in the championship
Swedish hero Fredrik Lindgren sent Gothenburg’s Ullevi Stadium wild after winning his first ever FIM Speedway Grand Prix gold medal on May 26 and declared “now I’m going to win some more.”
Fast Freddie, 26, topped the rostrum after passing world champion Greg Hancock on the first lap of the final. Aussie champion Chris Holder was third and wildcard Thomas H Jonasson underlined his SGP qualification credentials by claiming fourth spot.
Lindgren’s victory was the perfect way to lay the ghost of Gothenburg 2008 to rest. He finished second to Rune Holta in the Ullevi Stadium that year, despite winning all of his heats and his semi-final.
Lindgren had achieved three seconds, three thirds and two fourths from his previous eight SGP final appearances.
Holder is now fourth in the world championship on 52 points -- just six behind Hancock -- and was delighted with his consistency as he emerges as a genuine title challenger in his third season as an SGP regular.
He said: “It’s so hard to get to the final, so I’m stoked to get on the rostrum. I’m happy for Freddie that he got a win in front of his home crowd -- that was awesome. I’m stoked with the whole night and I had some good points.
“You’ve just got to get good points in every round and I’m so happy to get 17. Being third is pretty cool.”
Holder’s countryman Jason Crump (pictured) finished seventh overall after being eliminated at the semi-final stage. He’s dropped from first to third in the standings, but like Holder still remains firmly in the hunt.
“The track was changing all night so choosing the right gate was critical and I was a little indecisive when making my choice,” said Crump.  “Having first choice of gates is a bonus and I did not capitalise on it unfortunately.
“There are seven more GPs ahead of us so I am still well and truly in the running and my focus will be on one GP at a time and staying at the pointy end of the field.
“Congratulations to Fast Freddie (Lindgren) on taking his first Grand Prix win in front of his home crowd; he rode a clever race in passing Holder and then Hancock to take the win.”
Round five of the 2012 championship will take place in Denmark on June 9.
