Swann Insurance will be the naming rights sponsor for the 2014 Australasian Superbike Championship (ASC).
It’s yet another coup for the ASC, which is already riding a wave of expectation after a number of key defections from the rival Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) in recent weeks. Among those to announce a switch to the ASC include Next Gen Motorsports, which won the 2011 ASBK title with Glenn Allerton, and Wayne Maxwell, the reigning ASBK champion, who is starting his own team after his previous employer, Team Suzuki, officially bowed out of local racing because of a budget shortfall.
Ex-Suzuki pilot Robbie Budgen, the third place finisher in the 2013 ASBK title, had already announced his new home at the ASC as part of the Yamaha Racing Team, which will also field Rock Olson, Kevin Curtain and Cru Halliday.
Team Honda (Jamie Stauffer and Josh Hook) is also on record as saying that its road racing plans in 2014 will be the ASC or nothing at all. An official announcement is expected anytime soon.
The first round of the 2014 Swann Insurance Australasian Superbike Championship kicks off at Wakefield Park Raceway (NSW) on Sunday, March 16.
