Suzuki suspends MotoGP racing

Citing economic factors and “repeated natural disasters”, Suzuki has pulled the pin on MotoGP racing, and plans to return in 2014 with a newly developed bike

Suzuki’s open secret has now been made official, with the company invoking a two-year suspension on MotoGP racing.

In a statement, Suzuki said that it made the decision to withdraw to cope with “tough circumstances mainly caused by the prolonged recession in developed countries, a historical appreciation of Japanese Yen and repeated natural disasters”.

The decision leaves only Honda, Yamaha and Ducati with a factory presence in MotoGP from 2012.

Suzuki’s lone MotoGP rider in 2011, Spain’s Alvaro Bautista, has already found a new home at San Carlo Gresini Honda for 2012.

Suzuki will continue motocross racing activity and “road racing activities using mass-produced motorcycles”.
