The Suzuki GSX-S1000GT is the winner of the 2022 bikesales Bike of the Year People’s Choice award, proudly presented by Shannons Insurance.
Introduced as a new model for 2022, the 1000cc sportstourer accounted for 24 per cent of the votes from respondents to the BOTY reader’s poll. It beat nine other BOTY finalists to claim the only prize voted for by the public.

Voters were enamoured with the Suzuki’s versatility and affordable price tag. “A real all-purpose road bike with amazing performance at an honest price,” said one reader.
“Amazing bang for buck and a brilliant machine for the price point,” said another. “It is practical, exciting, and has pure sports heritage.”
Other voters described the GSX-S1000GT as an “almost perfect all-rounder”, an “affordable and reliable sportstourer”, and the “best of both worlds”.
A few punters also said it was a return to the good old-fashioned art of sportstouring. “Don’t fall for the adventure bike fad,” another reader said. “Excluding off-road, it is the perfect balance of everything that anyone ever needs.”
Placing second in the People’s Choice awards, with 22 per cent of the vote, was the stylish Yamaha XSR900 neo-retro roadster, which won praise for its classic looks and all-round performance.
“It is a marriage between old and new, and has functionality, affordability, and is the essence of motorcycling in a good-looking package,” said one reader of the Yamaha XSR900.
Rounding out the People’s Choice podium with 11 per cent was the all-new Triumph Tiger 1200 Rally Pro adventurer tourer, which has been lauded for its deluxe equipment and off-road ability.
“Looks like a GS beater,” said one Tiger fan. “I would love to own one and it would be a great spot to see Australia from.”
The other 2022 Bike of the Year finalists were the Aprilia Tuareg 660, the BMW CE 04, the Harley-Davidson Low Rider ST, the Husqvarna Norden 901, the KTM 350 SX-F, the Honda CMX1100 DCT, and the Yamaha YZF-R7HO.
