The all-new Suzuki GSX-S1000 will finally hit Australia in early August 2015, priced at $14,990 and available in metallic blue, gloss black/candy red and metallic matte grey liveries.
The all-new litre-class naked bike, alongside the fully-faired GSX-S1000F, form a new 'Street Sport' class for the Japanese manufacturer, sitting between the GSX-R range of racing-bred sports bikes and lower-spec sportstouring machines likes the GSX1250FA and GSX650F. Both were unveiled at the 2014 Intermot show in Cologne.
The pair is powered by the 2005 version of the GSX-R1000 long-stroke engine, and there is also three-way traction control, Brembo monobloc calipers with anti-lock braking, Renthal aluminium Fatbar handlebars and a full multi-function LCD instrument cluster.
Power is 143.5hp at 10,000rpm, and torque is 106Nm at 9500rpm. Suzuki kept the performance figures under wraps at Cologne, as well as weight, which is 209kg ready to ride with 17 litres of fuel.
Kawasaki's Ninja 1000 ($15,999) is one of the GSX-S1000's major competitors, and it produces 140hp at 10,00rpm and 111Nm at 7300rpm, and weighs in at 231kg. BMW Motorrad's S 1000 R ($18,990) is another bike in the in-line four naked sports brigade, hitting the scales at 207kg and with 160hp/112Nm at its disposal.
Other competitors include the Triumph Speed Triple, the just released Aprilia Tuono V4 1100, MV Agusta Brutale 1090RR, and Yamaha FZ1N.
Meanwhile, price and availability for the GSX-S1000F are yet to be announced, but it won't be too far behind the GSX-S1000. Contact your local Suzuki dealer for more information on both bikes.
