Suzuki GSX-R1000

Suzuki cut into the R1 versus Fireblade debate some time ago and it was interesting to see how it appraoched it. What it had in its war chest was the GSX-R750 branding, dating back to 1984, far older than its competitors

It stuck to the general theme (though it's wandered off a little in years past) by producing a light and powerful motorcycle that was unmistakably GSX-R.

It's actually a good thing. Very fast (surprise, surprise) a good spread of power, slick gearbox, sharp and fairly quick steering, well sorted suspension, dedicated but workable riding position and very powerful brakes. The latter could have offered more feel on both versions I've ridden, but were good.

One aspect Suzi has struggled with from time to time is finding that elusive user-friendly aspect - this time it worked. Though hideously quick, and pretty accurate, the performance and handling is very accessible. It's ahead of last year's R1 and this year's Fireblade. Which is no mean feat.
