Suzuki goes stratospheric

Hamamatsu to launch first six

Suzuki has given the green light for production of its first-ever six-cylinder road bike, the Stratosphere.

Slated for release in 2009 the machine has modern-day Katana-like lines but will have almost nothing in common with the 1980s classic.

The concept bike was first shown in Tokyo in October 2005 and boasted four LED headlamps, electric windscreen and GPS navigation.

How many of those features survive as far as the production line is yet to be seen.

The 1100cc engine claimed 180 horses in original form and, like most sixes, should be silky smooth.
