Donington Park hosted the very first championship round in 1988, with Italians Davide Tardozzi and former 500cc world champion Marco Lucchinelli the victors – and Troy Corser and Troy Bayliss still starry-eyed teenagers back home in Australia.
Both of the venerated Aussies will be in action at Donington, with Bayliss (Ducati 999F07) currently third in the standings on 64pts behind in-form Briton James Toseland (Honda CBR1000RR, 90pts) and Italian megastar Max Biaggi (Suzuki GSX-R1000, 74pts).
Bayliss and Toseland shared wins and second places at Phillip Island's round two on March 4, but Donington Park, with its mix of fast, sweeping curves and first gear corners, will provide an entirely new challenge for the World Superbike paddock.
Now an incumbent at Yamaha, Corser (pictured) is again feeling optimistic after a recent, searching test session at Valencia.
"The team has made some small changes to the (fuel-injection) throttle bodies, and that has improved the mid-range on the Yamaha, which means that the bike is a bit easier to ride," said Corser. "I feel good on the bike - it stops and turns well, but it isn't going fast enough yet.
All it needs is a bit more power and I hope we can get that for Donington.
"I'm happy that we managed to get through as much as we did at Valencia and I'm looking forward to the fruits of all the work."
Fox Sports 2 will be running with it live at 11.30am on Sunday. See our Motoracing section for Yamaha's preview. (Pic: Yamaha)
