Superbike, supersport and historics for Oz GP supports

Entries now open

This year's Australia Motorcycle Grand Prix at Phillip Island from October 15-18 will feature the same three national support categories as 2008 - superbike, supersport and historic.

There was some speculation the 125 GP class may have returned as the third category behind superbike and supersport, but the Australian Grand Prix Corporation (AGPC), which promotes the MotoGP event, has decided to maintain the status quo.

For the first time at a Phillip Island Grand Prix, points in the superbike and supersport categories will count towards the official Australian championships in both classes.

The corresponding support races at the March world superbike round also carried Australian championship status.

The historic category will be for Period 4 and Period 5 500-130cc four-strokes, and for Period 5 500-1300cc two-strokes.

An official event schedule has not yet been released by the AGPC, but it's expected the three support categories wil be very active on Friday morning with no practice scheduled for the three world championship classes - MotoGP, 250cc and 125cc.
