Summer road racing makes a return

There will be a three-round FX Superbike championship in 2010, to be run over consecutive weekends in December

Fans of the now defunct Swann International Series may get a little nostalgic when they hear this. That’s because national-level road racing is set to make a long-overdue comeback in December when the inaugural Australasian FX Superbike Championship Summer Series (AFXSBK) is held over three consecutive weekends.

But this time there will be no Calder Park, Oran Park and Surfers Paradise International Raceway on hosting duties – which would certainly be a conundrum when two no longer exist… – the day/night summer series will be played out at Eastern Creek (December 4), Wakefield Park (December 11-12) and Winton (December 18-19).

The series finale will also incorporate the Australasian FX Motocross Championship and Junior Australasian Motocross Championship.

Both the road racing and senior motocross titles will be televised on SBS’s Speedweek program and also Fox Sports, with two one-hour shows set aside for each round.
