Sub-$7k for BMW’s baby GS

The new G 310 GS set to hit dealerships by mid-October

BMW’s baby GS adventure bike is set to hit dealerships by the middle of October 2017, carrying a recommended retail price of $6900 (plus ORC).

The G 310 GS, which is based on the firm’s newly introduced G 310 R nakedbike, first broke cover at the 2016 EICMA show in Milan where it appeared looking every bit its range-topping R 1200 GS sibling.

Introducing the new BMW G 310 GS – confirmed MRLP and release date.

As well as the obligatory beaked front mudguard, the baby GS gets a 19-inch front wheel suspended within a 41mm upside-down front fork, while a preload adjustable linkage-free monoshock looks after the rear and allows for the 180mm of wheel travel at both ends.

The liquid-cooled, fuel-injected 313cc single is capable of 34hp (25kW) at 9500rpm as well as 28Nm of the all-important torque, whose peak chimes in 2000rpm earlier at 7500rpm.

Electronics-wise, it’s limited to a two-channel ABS, which allows you to disengage the system when the conditions demand it.

It’s got a seat height of 835mm, a fuel tank capacity of 11 litres and the whole kit and caboodle tips the scales at a smidgen under 170kg ready to ride.
