Aussie freestyle motocross star Jackson Strong has confirmed he'll return to this year's AUS-X Open event in Sydney to defend his 2015 gold medal.
Held over November 12-13 at Sydney Olympic Park's Qudos Bank Arena, the event combines separate FMX and Supercross competitions, both of which have attracted a star-studded international line-up.
Strong will contest the FMX Best Trick again this year, an event he nabbed with a front flip to claim the gold medal and $40,000 in prize money last year. And while he's keeping tight-lipped on the actual trick he'll perform to defend his title, the three-time X-Games gold medalist said he'll need to pull out all the stops to get the job done.
"Even if I do land this trick there's still a chance I'm going to hospital," he said.
"Last time I landed it perfectly, wheels down – I couldn't have done it any better – and I left the event in the helicopter."
Strong will be up against the likes of Clinton Moore and Tom pages, both FMX world champions, but said he'll be spurred on by his home crowd.
"Nothing sounds more patriotic to me than launching into the roof in front of thousands of screaming Aussie fans," he said.
"I've been thinking about this trick for two years. It's beat me up, put me in hospital – I just want to get out there and get it done."
As well as the FMX Best Trick contest, both days will see an international line-up of world class Supercross riders battle it out on the purpose-built indoor circuit.
Like Strong, the 2015 supercross victor Cooper Webb will be back to defend his title in the Supercross event, against some of the biggest names in the sport like Aussie legend Chad Reed and four-time AMA World Supercross Champion Ryan Villopoto.
Tickets start at $40 and are available now via Ticketek.
