Stoner versus Webber

The titans of MotoGP and F1 racing, as well as Jamie Whincup in a V8 Supercar, will face off in the Top Gear Festival at Sydney Motorsport Park on March 9-10

During a press conference at the 2012 Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix, Casey Stoner said he was looking forward to cutting some laps – just for fun -- on a Honda CBR1000RR after he retired from MotoGP competition.

Well, he’s certainly kept to his word, and now that’s he’s all sorted with a V8 Supercar drive for 2013 the two-time MotoGP world champion has agreed to take part in the ‘Aussie Speed Showdown’ at the Top Gear Festival in Sydney on March 9-10. And his opposition at Sydney Motorsport Park (formerly Eastern Creek) will be heavy-hitters of the highest order: Mark Webber in his F1 car, and Jamie Whincup in his Commodore V8 Supercar.

The Australian F1 grand prix runs a similar speed comparison showdown every year, except that Stoner is breaking new ground by introducing a motorcycle into the mix for the first time.

As well as the Aussie Speed Showdown, Stoner will also be taking on Craig Lowndes in what’s being billed as the ‘Fish out of Water’ challenge. Stoner will be behind the wheel of Lowndes’ Commodore V8 Supercar, and Lowndes will be on a Suzuki GSX-R1000 Superbike.
