MotoGP world champion Casey Stoner has been treated for anaemia, and not chronic fatigue syndrome as some had speculated. After struggling somewhat in recent races the rumour mill started churning up all sorts of different maladies.
Anaemia is a blood condition that can cause muscular weakness and fatigue, and is usually due to an iron and/or haemoglobin deficiency.
Aside from a mild case of anaemia, Stoner revealed that his main issue in the lead up to the German Grand Prix this weekend is his rib injury.
After falling at Laguna Seca, while managing to secure fourth place, Stoner injured his ribs which are causing some discomfort.
He told www.MotoGP.com "I still don't feel like I am 100 per cent but the biggest problem now is that my ribs are very painful after the crash in qualifying in the US.
At present Casey Stoner is 16 points behind series leader Valentino Rossi in the championship standings, and if he recovers strongly for the next handful of races the Australia could still be a chance for the 2009 title.
"It will be probably another hard weekend in Germany, but as always, we will do our best to stay as much as possible close to the lead of the championship," Stoner added.
