Australia’s Casey Stoner will take the reins of a Honda MotoGP bike in a private test session with Honda in Japan on August 6-7, according to a report in News Limited media.
Stoner, 27, who retired at the end of 2012, will ride Honda’s 2014 prototype machine at Motegi, with rumours swirling that he could make a wildcard appearance in a late season event such as Australia’s Phillip Island in late October.
"There are times when I miss riding my RC213V so I am really happy that Honda has asked me to do some testing in Motegi this year," Stoner was quoted as saying by News Limited. "It will allow me to enjoy what I miss which is riding a MotoGP bike."
Stoner has been racing in the second-tier V8 Supercar title in 2013.
Honda Racing Corporation has denied that Stoner is in the mix for a wildcard ride in 2013, although the Australian Grand Prix Corporation would dearly love to see Stoner return to Phillip Island to try and make it seven wins in a row – but he could also be a foil for Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa.
