Mick Doohan will welcome Casey Stoner into the fold as a member of the Sport Australia Hall of Fame — the highest honour which can be bestowed upon an Australian sportsperson — at a gala event in Melbourne on Wednesday, October 21.
Stoner will feature alongside seven other Inductees, while the evening will also announce the 37th Legend of Australian Sport.
Upon his retirement from MotoGP as a 27-year-old in 2012, Stoner had 38 wins, 69 podiums, 39 pole positions and 29 fastest laps to his name.
The Sport Australia Hall of Fame Selection Committee Chairman Rob de Castella AO MBE said Casey Stoner AM is a legend of motorsport on and off the track.
“Casey Stoner is widely regarded as one of the best riders in the history of motorcycling,” de Castella said. “A two-time championship winner, an icon of international and Australian motorsport, Stoner is the perfect example of a courageous sportsperson who will stop at nothing to achieve their dreams.”
Established in 1985, the Sport Australia Hall of Fame plays a vital role in preserving and perpetuating Australia’s rich sporting heritage, whilst promoting the values of courage, sportsmanship, integrity, mateship, persistence, and excellence, all underpinned by generosity, modesty, pride and ambition.
